The Raising of the Flag

Exciting News!! A few months ago, the wire snapped on the tower, hence the Flag was taken down. Now, the flag is back up!! Tracy, from Leland, has coordinated an effort to have the old wires replaced with more robust ones, and we look forward to seeing the Flag wave proudly in our community once again. Great job Tracy! On a windy day, it is truly a magnificent sight. Remember, this icon is one of several things that will come to define our community, and we should certainly expect it to be a target for vandalism and criminal activity. So I would urge anyone who sees anything suspicious surrounding this tower to submit an online incident report immediately at http://www.avalonparkwatch.org/report1.html so our off duty deputies can be immediately notified along with rest of our community.

Security in Avalon Park

I have met with Leland Management this past month to discuss the scope of work for our security team in Avalon Park, specifically the scope of work for our off duties. We are currently working on finalizing a document that defines the community’s expectations of the off duties. Right now, we have 40 hours a week set aside between 3 off duties to work, and do not have any weekly report that is submitted that shows their work activities. We are also working with Cell Phone Cops to establish a reporting screen that our off duty deputies will use to status the Online Incident Reports that are submitted by our neighbors. This will be a great tool since it will completely help close the loop between neighbors concerns and our off duty deputies. Though we have great off duties working our neighborhoods, as a community, I am hearing the word “Accountability” as a driving theme.

Again, we really want to let all visitor’s with wrong intentions know that “Not here, Not now… for they will be immediately reported.”  We need to continue to build our reputation as a community that is an extremely safe one with invested neighbors who genuinely care for their surroundings. Also, we must continue to work with the resources that are available to us, hence if you have an idea or a requirement that you would like to be considered for our security team, please, please, please, visit our website below and submit a comment:

We need your thoughts and ideas. Remember, your idea is your investment in our community. We cannot build a safe community without your investments

On the Horizon

The Cell Phone Cops initiative is in its second Phase of Testing. What is Cell Phone Cops? We will soon have the capability to send the “Online Incident Report” via text message to our systems, so if you see something suspicious in the future, you will have the ability to text message the description of the incident, and that will be forwarded to our Off Duty Deputies and the rest of our community. You can also attached photo’s and videos if you have any

New Safety Station: A lot of neighbors have been asking about this, and here is the scoop. The Safety Station is slated to come to Avalon Park by the end of June, however we have been notified that it may surpass this date. APG will keep us posted, and in turn, we will keep you posted. The Safety Coordinator, Brenda Kolbrich, is working very hard on this initiative.

Will keep you posted and once again, if anyone have any ideas or suggestion, please comment on http://avalonadvisory.org/

National Night Out:  We are having an explosive Safety event this year in Town Park. We are currently in the process of applying for a county grant.  We plan to have fire trucks, face painters, representatives from the Sheriff Office and commissioner office as guest speakers, and a lot of fun activities for the family. Free Food, Free Activities, and Free information. This event will take place in August. Will keep you posted!  If you are interested in volunteering any of your talents or resources, please contact Tracy Durham at Tdurham@lelandmanagement.com. We surely can use your help

Coffee with the Sheriff:  Sheriff Demings have graciously agreed to come and speak to our community to discuss some of the activities that the Sheriff’s Office are doing to curb crime in Avalon Park, and also there will be some time set aside for our community to discuss concerns regarding safety directly with the Sheriff. The meeting is scheduled on Saturday, July 25th at 9:00 am, Location: Somewhere in Avalon Park, Town Park (Amphitheater). This will definitely be a great opportunity and if anyone have any ideas, suggestion, or would like to volunteer their time during this event, please let me or Brenda Kolbrich know. More to come…

What happened to the flag?

A few weeks ago, the wire snapped on the tower, hence the Flag was taken down. However, this week or next, we should see it up and waving in the air once again. Leland is working with the contractor to replace the wire with a more robust one. In any case, if anyone sees suspicious activities surrounding that tower or if you see something suspicious in your neighborhood, remember your first line of defense is to report it on http://www.avalonparkwatch.org/report1.html so our off duty deputies can be immediately notified and our community can be made aware.

Security in Avalon Park

Very soon, I will be meeting with Leland Management to discuss the scope of work for our security team in Avalon Park. Right now, we have our off duty deputies (3) that patrol our streets and neighbors who have volunteered to Citizens On Patrol, C.O.P. Avalon Park have some very unique safety needs and by helping to set clear guidelines and expectations that caters specifically to our community, we are ensuring the positive and safe lifestyle that living in Avalon Park affords. We really want to let all visitor’s with wrong intentions know that “Not here, Not now… for they will be immediately reported.” We need to continue to build our reputation as a community that is an extremely safe one with invested neighbors who genuinely care for their surroundings. Also, we must continue to work with the resources that are available to us, hence if you have an idea or a requirement that you would like to be considered for our security team, please, please, please, visit our website below and submit a comment:

We need your thoughts and ideas. Remember, we are meeting very soon so if you have any ideas, please submit them as soon as possible.

On the Horizon

Cell Phone Cops: the Safety Team is currently in the process of incorporating a technology from a vendor, Cell Phone Cops, that will enable us to use text messaging for reporting and notification through a web interface. Essentially, in the near future, we will be able to simply text and receive notification of suspicious activities. Will keep you posted!!!!

The meeting is scheduled on Saturday, July 25th at 9:00 am, Location: Somewhere in Avalon Park, TBD. This will definitely be a great opportunity and if anyone have any ideas, suggestion, or would like to volunteer their time during this event, please let me or Brenda Kolbrich know. More to come…..

Ideas and Suggestions for Neighborhood Security

Neighborhood Watch | Posted by Eddy Solon
May 06 2009

Neighbors,

Soon I will be meeting and working with Leland Management to develop a scope document for our security team (i.e. What we would like to see covered by our off duty deputies and Citizens On Patrol, C.O.P.) I would like your suggestion and ideas. In the comment section below please discuss your concerns and ideas, like safety concerns that are particular to your neighborhood. Hopefully, as we move forward securing the safety of our Neighborhoods, we all can help build a comprehensive tool that is well defined together. New Flag on the Cell Tower and Community Update

Neighborhood Watch | Posted by Eddy Solon
Apr 17 2009

If many of you have not noticed yet, there is a new American Flag on the Cell Phone tower.   Running to the YMCA a couple days ago, I did not notice the flag until I was a hundred feet or so away, and upon looking up at it, I was just in shock and awe.  It really looked inspiring and brilliant waving in the air.   The flag jolting back and forth on that windy day was monumental of the journey we continue to travel within our country and especially within our unique community here in Avalon Park.

I have said this many times, and yes I am going to say it again.  We live in a great community here in Avalon Park, and we are very fortunate to have leaders who are invested in the success of it.   From Safety to Community Building, our Safety team,  Avalon Park Advisory Board, and Leland Management work very hard to address our community concerns.  And looking at that flag on that windy day brought me back to the center of it all, that we live in a really great country, and more so we are building a really great community.     Also, at that moment, (not to sound so cheesy) I did not think about what is going wrong in our economy or the big devastating topic of the day, instead, I felt an overwhelming feeling of pride: proud to be part of this community and very proud to be an American.

There are many things on the way and things you need to look out for, like the new Safety Station that is coming to Avalon Park, and a grass roots movement that is looking at the idea of incorporating Avalon Park into a City.  I would urge all of you to get involved and to ask questions, to inject new ideas and concerns…. We need you!       If you are interested in hearing about any of this, please contact me directly.    As I eluded to earlier, it is refreshing to take time and take a moment out of your day to smell the Roses….. Literally.   To take a breather and enjoy the beautiful things that exists in our lives that we often overlook…. For an opportunity exist today for you to help build this community with your talents and investments, and we look forward to establishing this unique corner of Orlando together.
